Jazz Lose.....Again.

I'm really tired of this.  The Jazz are really sucking it up this year.  They suck at playing basketball almost as much as I suck at blogging.  I went with Tyler, he's pretty nice to me.  Here's a picture!

Let's see....what else is going on?  I found out today that people actually read my blog so I should probably start posting more.  I'm so sorry you guys...I guess sometimes I just feel like my life isn't that interesting haha.  Um...I start taking actual clients this week at school!  I'm pretty nervous about it actually.  But I think it will probably be okay.  So...apparently Paul Wall (remember?  the guy who sang Grillz with Nelly....???) is coming to perform in Provo.  I'll be taking pictures...don't you worry.  OK i have to go I'll holla atchya lata!

Wow...I'm Still Bad at This

FINALLY!  I'm writing a new post.  Yes, I realize it's been almsot a month, but I beat the month mark by one day!  Good for me.

School has been so amazing this far!  I've learned so much and I'm glad I don't suck at it.  I've done perms, colors, scalp treatments, cuts, styles TONS of stuff!  I've been a bit sick the past couple weeks with strep throat, so I've gotten a little behind on hours but I'm totally working on making those back up, and it will be a lot easier once I'm actually out on the floor.

And, now that I think about it, I start taking clients in 3 weeks!  I'm nervous kinda!  But hopefully it will be okay.  I think one of the main things I need to work on while I'm in school is my confidence.  I need to make myself believe that I know what I'm doing and that I'm actually good at it.  It's hard because I've never really been good at anything school related - so this is a change for me that I'm trying to get used to.  :)

One other thing, I have the most exciting news on EARTH that I want to tell EVERYBODY.  This picture here might give you a clue....

You guessed it!  I have an opportunity, it's probably like 80-90% sure, to do an apprenticeship with Nick Arrojo in his salon in New York City!  I have an old, dear friend, named Shea, you might recognize her from a ton of different photo shoots she's done and some commercials and such.  But anywho - she's great - we've always stayed in contact somewhat since she left Iowa to go to New York to pursue her modeling career.  Anywho...we were talking the other night on Facebook, and apparently she's way good friends with Nick and his wife.

If any of you don't know who Nick Arrojo is, you'll most likely recognize him from his appearances on What Not to Wear as the main hairstylist on that show.

So Shea and I were talking, and I told her that my dream would be to move to New York after I graduate and do an apprenticeship at a salon out there.  She continued to tell me that Nick has an AMAZING program that lasts anywhere between 1 & 3 years and that she is totally going to refer me!  She's had a few of her friends do his program and I guess it's just awesome.  I can't wait!

So what my plan is, is that I'm just going to keep going to school, and try my absolute hardest to be the best of the best here.  I need to work on my confidence and skills so I can actually be good when I go out there.  But Shea said she's going to try to set me up a "work-day" at his studio so I can go meet everyone at the salon and kind of get the hang of how things are run out there.  (Hopefully I'll be doing a lot of blogging that week!!!).  She also knows a few owners of a few other salons in New York and hopefully I'll be able to go tour their salons too!

I freaking love New York.  I've ALWAYS wanted to live there, at least for a year or two.  Maybe not permanently but it's always been something I've wanted to do in my life and I'm so grateful that I finally have an actual opportunity to do it!

So...that is something that I will DEFINITELY be keeping all of you updated about.  I really want this to happen so I need a lot of support to reach my goal.  Please help me you guys!!!

Well.  I'm going to do something productive here at school like work on my portfolio while I'm here in the break room.  Sorry this post has been so late!  I promise that I will work on this and be better at it.  PROMISE!

Black Student Union BBQ!

Here I am...with my roommates waiting for our friend Binny to come pick us up for the annual Black Student Union BBQ at UVU!  I hope they let us in!

Last night my roommate Ashley and I went to Salt Lake to go dancing at the Sandbar.  So fun!  Look at our outfits!

School as been so great this week!  It flew by which means I'm having fun!  I was sort of uneasy about school the first couple of days, but then I actually cut hair on a mannequin and realized it wasn't that hard and actually kind of fun!  We're doing a Halloween competition on the 26th of October and I'm SO EXCITED!  We have to get in groups of 4 and dress a model up as either a villian or a cartoon character.  So we're picking one of the instructors and dressing her up as Ursula from the Little Mermaid.  It's going to be so great!  I can hardly wait.  We're putting on a fashion show and everything!  Hopefully we win...that's all I want.

Welp!  I know I've been pretty crappy at blogging this week...I've just been so busy it's unreal!  I'm not used to getting up at 7:00 in the morning and getting done with school at 5:00 every night.  Doesn't leave too much time for blogging :)

OK!  I'm signing off now.  Until next time...

First Day of School!!

So...today was my first day of school...I woke up a little late.  But that's okay :) I still made it there on time!

And within the first hour I was giving another girl a scalp treatment!  AND they told me that I have to cut hair on Friday!!!!  I'm so nervous!  OK people are at my house now I need to go but I'm going to blog later tonight.

I PROMISE!!!!

Home Sweet Home

Longest.  Day.  Ever.

Not really, the drive really wasn't that bad.  A couple eventful things happened.  I was driving right behind a car that started on fire randomly...they pulled off to the side of the road and I called 911 for them.  That was sorta scary.

Then this stupid lady was trying to race me for LITERALLY 3 hours of my trip.  Ugh.  I've never had such road rage before in my LIFE!

I'm going to see if I can figure out how to add some pictures on here from this weekend....let's see here...

This is Grammy and I at the top of a mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park.  When my mom was driving up and there weren't any guard rails I thought Gram was going to have a panic attack.  She was practically leaning over the arm rest in the front seat to make sure we didn't fall over the edge.  Ha!
Mom and I at the same spot on the mountain.  My mom is such a pretty lady :)
We had a picnic in RMNP also, it was so good!  We at fried chicken, potato salad, deviled eggs, fruit salad, anything you could ever want!  Apparently my mom and I were taking too long to compliment Grammy on her cooking skills, so she just decided to do it herself.  She said to us, "Well!  Aren't I just such a good cook?!"

Two great pictures with two great women :)

We took these last night before we went out to dinner with my mom's friend, Jay.  We went to a mexican restaurant - I can't even remember the name of it.  None of us had ever heard of it or been there or anything.  We were going off of MapQuest directions, hoping it would be easy to find.  We got off on the exit to go eat, and we all assumed that it would be one of the only mexican restaurants in the area.

My, oh my, were we wrong.

There were LITERALLY about 15 Mexican restaurants on the 4 blocks leading to the one we were trying to find.  We thought it was so funny that there were so many!  Maybe you had to be there but....uhh.......er.....

Welp - I start school tomorrow - and I need to be there at 8:15 AM.  I don't even know what to do with myself.  I'm setting my alarm for 6:30 tomorrow morning.  I haven't woken up that early in who knows how long!  My cell phone is ALLLLLL the way across my bedroom so I make sure to actually get OUT of bed and wake up.

Honestly, I'm pretty nervous about starting school tomorrow.  I just hope I'm good at this!  Because if I'm not, I have no idea what I'm going to do with my life!  I think after we go through the orientation and everything tomorrow I'll feel a lot better - but I'm pretty anxious about it tonight!

Until next time (who knows - it could be in an hour when I can't sleep because of how nervous I am!) good night and be good!

I've Got a LONG Day Ahead of Me

Welp - this weekend has been amazing :)  I've had so much fun with my mom and my grandma.  SO many memories!  I can't wait to scrapbook them all :) yes - I DO scrapbook.

I've gota  497.56 mile drive ahead of me.  It's almost noon and I haven't even left yet.  My goal is to be home by 9....so I need to leave within the next hour.  If any of my followers read this - please please please text me (I know...it's dangerous) on my drive.  I'll be so bored it's not even funny.

I'll be posting pictures of this weekend as SOON as I get home tonight.  My mom gave me a computer cord so I can FINALLY use mine again.  I think it's been about 4 months since mine broke so I'm in desperate need of a new one.

If I die on my drive home - which I'm really hoping I don't - I want you all to know how much I love you and miss you.  You are all so great and I want pink roses at my funeral and a black casket.  And Cassie - you're the primary spokesperson :) and I want you to help my parents plan it.  You always throw a good party.

I love you all, and I'll be posting again soon :)

Ahhh....Saturday

Aren't Saturdays fantastic?!  Especially when it's in the low 80's and mostly sunny and you're about ready to go lay out by the pool with your mom and read a magazine :)

Last night we ate at Buca's and it was so delicious.  I should only eat there once a year or else I'll be obese in about a month.  It was so fun though, the three of us girls :)  I love girl weekends.  I think my mom and grandma need to vow to do this at LEAST once a year.  It's just so much fun!

This morning we went out to breakfast at this cute little restaurant here in Aurora called Le Peeps.  I had french toast of course...mmmmmmmm.

After that we went to the grocery store...I ended up riding around in the electric scooter because my knee is starting to swell up again.  I think my steroids are wearing off and now it's flaring up.  Yay.  On Tuesday Josie and I are going to have a "Dianna is Finally Insured" party at our apartment.  If you're reading this blog and you live in the vicinity you are more than welcome to come on over!  I think my dad and my step-mom, Cheryl will be there so that will be nice to have them there :)

If you haven't heard...I've been having TONS of health problems the past month or so.  First I was having some digestive problems, so my uncle had me take a certain amount of pepto every day...that was awful.  Then a few days later my eyeball swelled up, most disgusting/scary thing I've ever seen in my life.  It wasn't only this skin around my eye - it was the actual eyeBALL.  The white part had swelled out past my iris and pupil and I was freaking out, it hurt so bad.  So I went into the doctor and he gave me some steroid eye drops and then prescribed me some steroids as well (Prednisone - it made me a little chubby).  A few days after that my entire knee swelled up and hurt so bad that I couldn't move it or walk on it.  So it was BACK to the doctor for me that night and they had to drain the fluid around my knee and put me on crutches and pain killers.

Now I've been done with my steroids for a week or two and my knee is starting to swell up again.  Lovely.  I'm just hoping I last until Tuesday before I go back to the doctor because then I'll be insured and I wont have to pay an arm and a leg to get help.  I'm just going to have them take an x-ray of my entire body to figure out what the heck is wrong with me!!!

Enough complaining from me...I know I'll be fine...as long as I'm not dying anyways :)

Welp - I think it's time I head off to the pool!!  Sounds like a peaceful thing for me to do.  But before I go, I'd like to share some totally random and pointless facts with you that I learned today.

1)  A group of jellyfish is called a "smack".
2)  Charles Dickens would touch objects three times for good luck.
3)  The life span of a taste bud is about 10 days.  (That's the one I found to be the most interesting)
4)  A large river hippo can open its mouth wide enough to fit a four-foot child.  That means it can open it's mouth 4 feet wide.......

In-N-Out Burger. What's the big deal?

So.  The state of Utah is getting two new locations of In-N-Out Burger I believe.  Everyone is just SO excited about it!  People update their Facebook statuses over it, and talk about it all the time, and just wont shut up about it.  I've thought about it and wondered WHY is it such a big deal to people?  People don't freak out when a new Wendy's or McDonald's is built...is it just becaue In-N-Out is unique?

I've done a little bit of research on the matter.  I read up on the history of In-N-Out Burger on their website.  There are two main reasons I've found that I think make In-N-Out Burger so different from any other fast food restaurant.  They were the first to do the intercom type thing in the drive through.  Everywhere else had the workers come out to the car to take the order and take it back into the building.  So that was a pretty big deal back then.  Another thing I found out was that it's still family owned.  Meaning they don't have any franchises, but they do have 20 restaurants, mostly in the California area.

So, I'll admit, there are a few reasons why In-N-Out Burger is a little bit neater than the average fast food restaurant.  I've eaten there, it was a neat experience, I'm not THRILLED about the new restaurants coming to Utah, but now I do have a better understanding of why it's special.

Maybe I'll buy a t-shirt to show my support.

Day Two!!

Oh My GOSH you guys!!!!!!  Thank you so much for all your support!  I love it!  And Cassie....your blog RAWKS!  I'm a new follower...we need to keep each other motivated!  This is going to be the best blogging relationship ever :)

So here I am in Denver...my grandma got in last night and she's so great.  We stayed up until about midnight last night just talking and getting to know each other a little more.  It means a lot to me because she's turning 80 this upcoming year and I want to have a very close relationship with both her and my grandma on my dad's side.  I wasn't all that close with either of my grandpa's and I want to make sure it's different with my grandma's :)

They're both such sweet ladies and there are so many things I can learn from both of them and what they have accomplished and experienced in their lives.  They're both such strong women and I love them both dearly.

Tonight we're going to Buca de Beppo for dinner!  I can hardly wait!  I'm starving myself today so I have room in my stomach to eat there.  Hopefully I'll be good and take a lot of pictures this week so I can post them on here and you all can see all the fun things we did!

School starts Tuesday...AH!  I'm nervous!  But so excited about it at the same time.  I actually cut my own hair this morning - just to change it up a little bit - and it looks so good!  Hopefully that means I have a natural knack for what I'm going into.  If I'm not good at cutting hair and making people beautiful...I don't know what I'm good at then!  Ha...I think it will be fine though.  Everyone says cutting hair is easy...I hope they're right!

Alright everybody...I'm off to the grocery store with the fam.  Hopefully I'll have some pictures that I can put up tomorrow to show you all!  I love you all and please keep the comments and support going!  I love this!  This is so fun!

First Post Ever...

OK, so I've attempted blogging about a thousand times but I really want to do something that's going to stick, and that people are going to READ!  Along with a lot of other people...I was re-inspired to blog by the movie Julie & Julia...very good - I highly recommend it.

Instead of cooking (because I'm horrible at it and I don't even want to try to be good) I'm going to be blogging about my adventures at cosmetology school!  I'm starting on September 8th, I've wanted to go for years but I just haven't had the perfect chance.  I don't know if it's "perfect" timing right now...but I'm doing it anyway.

I've got about $5,000 worth of debt, no money, no job, I'm pretty much a failure at life.  But once I'm done with school, I wont be!  That's my goal - in one year I want to be so much more ahead in life than I am right now.  Hopefully this blog will help me, and others, look back and see how different I am!

But don't worry, all you readers out there, I'm going to add exciting things on here too.  For instance, my roommate, and very good friend, Josie sent me this link today that I would like to share with all of you.

http://imgur.com/ORogZ.jpg

I can't figure out how to paste pictures in the middle of a post yet...but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.  If anyone knows how, let me know!

But isn't that hilarious?  I mean...sad...very sad, but soooo funny.  I DO feel bad for the guy though.

OMG.  I just looked at Facebook, where I announced my upcoming blog, and I already have TWO friends that are excited about it!  Steve Elsey, Kris Johnson, you both just made my day :) Thank You!!!!

I'm in Denver right now, and last night we literally had an earthquake.  It was the weirdest thing that's ever happened to me.  I was just sitting on the computer...downloading some music...and all of a sudden the entire desk started to shake!  Then my mom yelled from her bedroom asking me if I felt that and I freaked out and ran into her bed with her...it was the most bizarre thing I've ever felt in my life.  Then about ten minutes later it happened again.  I've never been through an earthquake before, but now I can say I have :)

I just looked to see if the news reported an earthquake last night...but they didn't.  You don't have to believe me if you don't want to.

Well - I think this will be it for my first post.  I've done enough rambling for one day.  You all need to keep me motivated to keep this thing going!  I want to make it as interesting as possible and I totally would appreciate feedback.  Remember - mainly stories from school - but I want to make it entertaining too.

One more thing - look up the band Owl City and The XX.
